Silk Air

Silk air is an ancillary of Singapore Airlines and is situated in Singapore. The flight takes off from Singapore to about 25 cities in South Asia , Southeast Asia and China. Out of 49 small pull targets, it serves about 25 in the Singapore Airlines group.

As the local division of Singapore Airlines, Silk air is attached to Singapore Airline’s international system by increasing new goals in Asia through allocation of local associations using Singapore as a travel center.

It was the first Asian transporter which provides handheld moveable video on order in the form of the digEplayer 5500 for the entertainment of people and is available on the flights to India and China . Silk air operates 13 aircraft such as:-

  • Five A319s like 106 Economy Class and 12 Business Class
  • Eight A320s like 126 Economy Class and 16 Business Class

History

The airline had its origin as a local air license company in the shape of Tradewinds Charters at its creation in the year 1976 and make use of planes mainly chartered from parent Singapore Airlines. Planned services were established when it chartered McDonnell Douglas MD-87 airplanes. A chief promoting repair was done in the year 1991 offering the airline its current name and operating new Boeing 737-300s. In the middle of 1990s, two aircrafts were launched named as Airbus A310-200. In the year 2005, Silkair’s fleet was established which was a blend of Airbus A319s and Airbus A320s.

Incidents and Accidents

Silk Air Flight 185 was taken off from Jakarta to Singapore by the pilot named as Captain Tsu Way Ming and fallen into the Musi River in Sumatra on 19 th December, 1997 and about 104 people were killed on the board.
